In an era where college football coaching salaries are skyrocketing, Kenny Dillingham’s recent decision to reject a reported $250 million offer from both Penn State and Notre Dame has sent shockwaves through the sport. The 34-year-old Arizona State head coach, who has orchestrated a remarkable turnaround of the Sun Devils program, chose loyalty and vision over financial gain, reaffirming his commitment to Arizona State.

Dillingham took over a struggling Arizona State program in 2023, leading the team to a 3-9 record in his first season. However, in just his second year, he transformed the Sun Devils into a national contender, guiding them to an 11-2 record, a Big 12 championship, and a spot in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals.

The reported offers from Penn State and Notre Dame, each valued at $250 million over ten years, included substantial salary increases, performance-based incentives, and full control over football operations. Despite the unprecedented nature of these offers, Dillingham chose to remain with Arizona State, citing his deep connection to the program and its potential for sustained success.

“Arizona State is my home. The journey we’ve started here is just beginning, and I am committed to building a championship program that our fans and alumni can be proud of,” Dillingham stated.

Under his leadership, Arizona State has made significant strides in recruiting, player development, and facilities upgrades. Dillingham’s approach to the evolving landscape of college football, particularly regarding Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals, emphasizes culture and development over financial incentives. “Nobody comes here because they get paid more money. So if you’re a recruit, I’m sorry you came here because you see the opportunity, and you see that kids are not leaving our program,” he said.

His commitment extends beyond the players to his staff as well. After securing a $200,000 bonus for the team’s ninth win, Dillingham redistributed the entire amount among 20 off-field staff members, demonstrating his dedication to the program’s collective success.

Arizona State has recognized Dillingham’s contributions with a new five-year contract, making him one of the highest-paid coaches in the Big 12, with a base salary of $5.8 million in 2025 and significant performance-based incentives.

Dillingham’s decision to stay at Arizona State, despite lucrative offers from prestigious programs, underscores a commitment to building a lasting legacy rooted in loyalty, culture, and a shared vision for the future.
