June 2025 — In what will be remembered as one of the most dominant and well-rounded performances in collegiate sports history, Arizona State University (ASU) has etched its name into the record books by accomplishing an unparalleled feat in the 2024–2025 academic year. The Sun Devils became the first university ever to win a national championship in football, reach the Final Four in men’s basketball, participate in the Women’s College World Series (WCWS), secure a bowl victory, and advance to a baseball regional—all within the same academic calendar year.

This historic sweep across five major sports showcases not only the depth of ASU’s athletic talent but also the strength of its coaching, facilities, and university-wide support system. The crowning achievement came with a thrilling victory in the College Football Playoff National Championship game in January 2025, marking ASU’s first-ever title in the sport. Head Coach Marcus Daniels, in just his third season, guided the Sun Devils through an undefeated season, stunning perennial powerhouses and cementing ASU’s rise as a national football force.

Not long after, Bobby Hurley’s men’s basketball squad made a dramatic run through the NCAA Tournament, reaching the Final Four for the first time since the program’s golden era. Their high-paced offense and lockdown defense captivated the nation during March Madness.

On the diamond, ASU’s women’s softball team fought its way into the WCWS, showcasing resilience and star power against the nation’s elite. Meanwhile, the baseball team returned to the NCAA Regionals, reigniting a legacy of hardball excellence. And to complete the sweep, the football team added a major bowl win to their already glistening championship run.

ASU Athletic Director Ray Anderson called the achievement “a dream realized and a testament to decades of dedication.” He noted that the collective success of the programs reflects ASU’s holistic approach to athlete development, top-tier recruitment, and institutional investment in excellence.

Arizona State’s historic 2024–25 campaign will not only be remembered for the trophies but also for how it redefined what’s possible in collegiate athletics. The Sun Devils have set a new gold standard—one that may stand for generations.
