🚨💚🤍 HENRIK LARSSON: THE KING OF KINGS SAYS FAREWELL – A CELTIC LEGEND WHO WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN! 👑⚽
There are footballers who score goals, players who win trophies, and then there are legends who become part of a club’s identity. Henrik Larsson belongs firmly in the last category.
For Celtic supporters around the world, the name Henrik Larsson represents something far greater than statistics. He represents unforgettable goals, extraordinary loyalty, breathtaking moments and an emotional connection with supporters that has survived long after he left the pitch.
Larsson joined Celtic in 1997 from Feyenoord for a fee of around £650,000. What followed became one of the most remarkable chapters in the club’s modern history. Over seven sensational years in Glasgow, the Swedish striker established himself as one of the greatest players ever to wear the famous green-and-white hoops.
His goals became legendary. His movement, finishing and intelligence made him a nightmare for defenders, while his professionalism earned him enormous respect from teammates and opponents alike.
Larsson scored 242 goals in 313 appearances for Celtic, according to the SPFL, an extraordinary record that explains why supporters gave him the unforgettable nickname “The King of Kings.”
But perhaps the most emotional part of Larsson’s Celtic story was the way it ended.
On May 16, 2004, Larsson played his final match at Celtic Park against Dundee United. He scored twice in a 2–1 victory before receiving an emotional farewell from the supporters. Tens of thousands of fans remained inside the stadium to celebrate one of the greatest players they had ever witnessed.
Six days later, Larsson produced another unforgettable performance in the Scottish Cup final against Dunfermline. He scored twice as Celtic won 3–1, bringing his extraordinary Celtic journey to a spectacular conclusion.
His departure was painful for supporters, but Larsson left behind memories that could never disappear.
One of his greatest achievements came during Celtic’s remarkable run to the 2003 UEFA Cup final. Against Porto, Larsson scored twice, although Celtic eventually lost 3–2 after extra time. Even in defeat, his performance demonstrated the extraordinary quality that had made him such a beloved figure.
After Celtic, Larsson continued his career with Barcelona, where he helped the club win major honours, including the UEFA Champions League. He also had a memorable loan spell with Manchester United before eventually ending his professional playing career with Helsingborg in 2009. His final farewell to professional football came after his last game for Helsingborg.
Yet his relationship with Celtic never truly disappeared.
In 2026, Celtic continues to celebrate Larsson’s legacy. The club has promoted opportunities for supporters to meet him, including an exclusive event connected with the book “Larsson: A Legend in Focus.”
That tells the story perfectly.
Henrik Larsson may have said goodbye to competitive football many years ago, but he never said goodbye to the hearts of Celtic supporters.
His goals remain in the memories. His celebrations remain in the photographs. His No. 7 shirt remains a symbol of greatness.
