Atlético Madrid head coach Diego Simeone has said winter arrival Ademola Lookman is “trying to adapt” as the winger continues to find his feet in Spanish football.
Speaking after a training session on Tuesday, Simeone stressed patience, noting that mid-season moves can be demanding both tactically and culturally. “Ademola is a player with pace and personality,” the coach said. “He’s working hard every day, understanding our principles, and gradually settling into the group.”
Lookman, who joined during the January transfer window, has made a handful of substitute appearances but is yet to start a league match. Simeone explained that Atlético’s compact defensive structure and intense pressing require time to master, especially for players arriving from a different system. “Here, everyone attacks and everyone defends. That balance doesn’t come overnight,” he added.
Despite limited minutes, teammates have praised Lookman’s attitude in training, highlighting his willingness to learn Spanish and integrate with the squad. Club sources believe his versatility across the front line could prove valuable as Atlético juggle domestic and European commitments.
With a busy fixture list ahead, Simeone hinted opportunities will come. “We trust him,” he said. “Adaptation is part of the process, and he’s on the right path.”
