Chelsea Boosted by Delap and Estevao Returns Ahead of Aston Villa Clash
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has received a timely boost ahead of Saturday’s Premier League showdown with in-form Aston Villa, confirming that Liam Delap and Estevao are both available for selection.
Delap’s return comes as welcome news after fears of a lengthy absence. The £30 million striker injured his shoulder during Chelsea’s draw with Bournemouth on December 6, raising concerns over another extended lay-off in a season already disrupted by injuries. The 22-year-old has endured a frustrating campaign, missing around ten weeks largely due to a groin problem suffered on his first home start in August, and is still searching for his first Premier League goal since joining from Ipswich.
Estevao also strengthens Maresca’s attacking options, having not featured since making a late substitute appearance in the December 13 victory over Everton.
“Estevao is available for Saturday and also Liam Delap,” Maresca confirmed. “We didn’t know exactly how long Liam needed to be out. I’m very happy for both.”
The encounter will also spotlight two of England’s brightest attacking midfield talents, with Morgan Rogers set to face Cole Palmer as both aim to cement their places ahead of next year’s World Cup. While Rogers has excelled for third-placed Villa, Maresca backed Palmer strongly, insisting he remains a top option for England boss Thomas Tuchel.
Maresca also praised captain Reece James, highlighting his growing leadership after an influential display in Chelsea’s 2–2 comeback draw against Newcastle, underlining his importance to the Blues when fully fit.
