Indiana University Unveils $698.4 Million Renovation for Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall
BLOOMINGTON, IN – Indiana University has announced a historic $698.4 million renovation of Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, the legendary home of the Hoosiers men’s and women’s basketball programs. This ambitious project marks one of the largest investments in a college basketball facility in NCAA history and signals IU’s deep commitment to its storied basketball tradition and fan experience.
Originally opened in 1971, Assembly Hall has been the heartbeat of IU basketball for over five decades. While the venue received a $45 million facelift in 2016, the new project goes far beyond cosmetic improvements. The $698.4 million overhaul will include state-of-the-art training facilities, expanded seating with enhanced comfort, cutting-edge video and sound technology, premium fan zones, upgraded locker rooms, and a dramatic reimagining of the building’s façade and infrastructure.
University officials say the renovation will not only preserve the historic charm of Assembly Hall but elevate it into a modern, elite-level sports and entertainment venue. “Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall is a cathedral of college basketball,” said IU President Pamela Whitten. “This transformative renovation ensures that our fans, student-athletes, and the entire IU community enjoy a world-class experience worthy of our proud tradition.”
The project is expected to begin in early 2026 and will be completed in phases to minimize disruption during basketball seasons.
