Former Texas A&M linebacker Edgerrin Cooper has been named to ESPN’s “Ten Names To Know” list ahead of the 2025 NFL season, highlighting his rapid ascent as one of the league’s most promising defensive talents.
Cooper, selected 45th overall by the Green Bay Packers in the 2024 NFL Draft, made an immediate impact during his rookie season. He recorded 87 total tackles, 3.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and an interception, earning a spot on the PFWA All-Rookie Team . His standout performances included being named NFC Defensive Player of the Week in both Week 8 and Week 15.
ESPN analyst Ben Solak praised Cooper’s development, noting, “The light bulb went on for Cooper last year, as he rose from sub-package player to 100% snap starter by season’s end. From December on, I’m not sure there were five more impactful linebackers in all of football” . Solak also highlighted Cooper’s versatility, stating, “Cooper is highly active against the run and a reliable tackler in space. He has the size and athletic ability to be a solid coverage man.”
Cooper’s journey began in Covington, Louisiana, where he excelled at Covington High School before committing to Texas A&M. At A&M, he amassed 205 tackles, 31 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, and three forced fumbles over his collegiate career . His senior year accolades included being named a consensus All-American and First-team All-SEC.
As the Packers prepare for the upcoming season, Cooper’s continued growth is anticipated to be a key factor in their defensive strategy. With another offseason under his belt and a full recovery from a hamstring injury that limited him to 14 games in his rookie year, expectations are high for Cooper to emerge as one of the league’s top linebackers in 2025.
