Conner Weigman’s transfer from Texas A&M to the University of Houston marks a significant turning point for both programs, signaling a new era for the Cougars and a reshaped quarterback landscape for the Aggies.
A former five-star recruit and standout at Bridgeland High School in Cypress, Texas, Weigman was once heralded as the future of Texas A&M football. He amassed 2,694 passing yards, 19 touchdowns, and seven interceptions over 15 games (13 starts) during his three seasons in College Station. However, his tenure was marred by injuries, including a foot fracture in 2023 and a shoulder injury in 2024, which led to him losing the starting role to Marcel Reed .
Now healthy and returning to his hometown, Weigman brings experience and leadership to a Houston program eager for revitalization. The Cougars’ offense struggled significantly in 2024, ranking near the bottom nationally in scoring and passing. Under the guidance of new offensive coordinator Slade Nagle, formerly of Tulane, and head coach Willie Fritz, Houston aims to transform its offensive identity. Weigman’s arrival, along with key additions like tight end Tanner Koziol and offensive linemen from Oklahoma State, Cal, and Texas Tech, positions the Cougars for a potential resurgence .
Weigman’s decision to transfer was driven by a desire to reach his full potential, stating, “I feel like my best football is ahead of me. I wasn’t able to reach my full potential where I was at. I know what I’m capable of and what I can bring to a team and a program” . His commitment to Houston not only strengthens the team’s quarterback position but also serves as a homecoming, reconnecting him with the community where his football journey began.
