Virginia Tech’s women’s basketball team has bolstered its roster with the addition of Northwestern guard Melannie Daley, who announced her commitment on May 1, 2025. The 5’11” guard from Hastings, New York, brings a wealth of experience and scoring ability to the Hokies as she enters her graduate year of eligibility.

Daley’s collegiate career at Northwestern spanned four seasons, during which she played in 94 games, starting 30. Over the past two seasons, she has averaged over 11 points per game, showcasing her scoring prowess. In the 2024-25 season, Daley contributed 11.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.1 steals per game, while shooting 46.7% from the field and 80% from the free-throw line. Her mid-range shooting and defensive capabilities have earned her the nickname “Mid-range Mel” among fans and analysts .

Virginia Tech’s head coach, Megan Duffy, expressed enthusiasm about Daley’s addition to the team, noting her experience and skill set. Daley’s commitment marks the Hokies’ third transfer addition of the offseason, following Purdue guard Sophie Swanson and Texas Tech forward Kilah Freelon . With Daley’s arrival, Virginia Tech aims to strengthen its roster and continue its competitive presence in the ACC.

Daley’s transition to Virginia Tech represents a significant step in her basketball journey, and her presence is expected to make an immediate impact on the Hokies’ performance in the upcoming season.
