AUSTIN – The spotlight is shining bright on No. 5 Texas Longhorns’ sophomore guard Madison Booker, who has been nothing short of sensational. In a blistering week of action, Booker led the Longhorns to three impressive victories, averaging 22 points and shooting an eye-popping 51% from the field.
Booker set the tone early with a jaw-dropping 28-point performance in Texas’ historic 89-51 demolition of No. 8 Maryland—marking the largest margin of victory over a top-10 team in Longhorns’ history. But she didn’t stop there.
In a fierce showdown against No. 17 Tennessee, Booker lit up the scoreboard for 26 points, and her clutch play in the final moments stole the show. With the game tied late in the fourth quarter, Booker picked off a Tennessee inbound pass and coasted for the game-winning layup, putting Texas ahead when it mattered most.
Then, in a nail-biter against Ole Miss, Booker kept her cool despite an off shooting night. Channeling her “shooters shoot” mentality, she drilled a crucial mid-range jumper to give Texas the lead with under a minute to play. But she wasn’t done yet. With seconds remaining, she snatched another inbound pass to seal the victory in front of a home-state crowd packed with family and friends.
“It happens,” Booker said humbly after the win. “I went 5-15, not great, but I also had two steals and 10 rebounds… I stayed poised in the fourth quarter to help my team win.”
With an SEC gauntlet still ahead, Booker will need to keep her foot on the gas. The Longhorns are ready to roll again on Thursday against Mizzou, airing live at 8 p.m. from the Moody Center on SEC Network.
