🚨 BREAKING: Edu LEAVES Nottingham Forest After Seven Months Away From Club Duties
Nottingham Forest have officially parted ways with Edu Gaspar, bringing an end to the former Arsenal sporting director’s controversial spell as the club’s Global Head of Football.
Edu’s contract has been terminated around 14 months after he was appointed to the newly created position at Forest. Despite the high-profile nature of his arrival, his involvement with the club’s football operations gradually diminished, and he had been away from day-to-day duties since February.
The Brazilian executive was originally brought to Forest in July 2025 as part of owner Evangelos Marinakis’ ambitious plans to develop a wider football structure across his group of clubs. His responsibilities extended beyond Nottingham Forest to include recruitment, performance, squad strategy and player development across Forest, Olympiacos and Rio Ave.
However, Edu’s time at the City Ground quickly became complicated. His tenure coincided with a turbulent period for the club, including significant managerial instability. Forest went through four head coaches during the previous season, with Nuno Espírito Santo, Ange Postecoglou, Sean Dyche and Vítor Pereira all taking charge at different stages.
Edu himself had not been involved in the daily running of Forest’s football department since February. He also stopped attending matches and visiting the club’s training ground, leaving questions over his future for several months. Those questions have now been answered following the termination of his contract.
Interestingly, Forest are not expected to appoint a direct replacement for Edu. George Syrianos, who has been promoted to Chief Football Officer, has already taken on many of the responsibilities previously associated with the Brazilian.
Edu arrived at Forest with an impressive reputation. As a player, he was part of Arsenal’s famous unbeaten 2003/04 Premier League-winning team. He later returned to Arsenal as Technical Director before becoming the club’s Sporting Director, where he worked closely with manager Mikel Arteta.
His departure is another major change in Forest’s football leadership structure. The club has undergone a significant overhaul behind the scenes, with several senior executives and recruitment figures leaving or moving into new positions over the past year.
For Forest supporters, Edu’s exit closes a chapter that began with considerable ambition but ultimately ended amid uncertainty and internal changes.
The focus now turns to George Syrianos and the rest of Forest’s leadership team as they attempt to establish greater stability and build a stronger long-term football structure at the City Ground.
