Hollywood star Mel Gibson is once again in the spotlight — not for a new film, but for his personal life, as he and longtime partner Rosalind Ross confirm their separation after nearly nine years together. Amid the announcement, attention has turned to the 69-year-old actor-director’s family, including his nine children. 
Gibson and screenwriter Rosalind Ross, 35, announced on December 30, 2025 that they have ended their relationship. In a joint statement, the couple said they remain committed to co-parenting their eight-year-old son, Lars Gerard Gibson, who is Mel’s youngest child. The split reportedly occurred quietly about a year ago, but was only made public this week.
Lars is the ninth child in Gibson’s large family. The Oscar winner has seven older children with his ex-wife, Robyn Moore, whom he was married to for more than three decades, and an additional daughter from a previous relationship with musician Oksana Grigorieva.
His eldest children — including Hannah and six adult sons — were born during his marriage to Moore, which ended in 2011 after 31 years. The daughter he shares with Grigorieva, Lucia, is now a teenager. Gibson’s family life has often played out in the public eye alongside his long and varied Hollywood career.
Despite the breakup, both Gibson and Ross emphasized in their statement that their focus remains on raising Lars with mutual support and care. They said, “Although it’s sad to end this chapter in our lives, we are blessed with a beautiful son and will continue to be the best parents possible.”
