Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel is actively working on an agenda to support Christian communities in Nigeria, describing it as a central part of his government’s international priorities. Speaking to evangelical leaders in Florida, Netanyahu highlighted what he described as global threats to “Judeo-Christian tradition,” citing radical Islamist groups as drivers of persecution of Christians in regions including the Middle East and Africa. 
Netanyahu framed Israel as uniquely positioned to help beleaguered Christians worldwide, asserting that no other country protects and enables Christian communities to grow and thrive the way Israel does. He said Israel aims to join efforts with other nations to form a coalition—likened to a “United Nations” for Christian support—to provide assistance where communities face pressure or violence.
The announcement came shortly after Netanyahu’s meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, who authorized U.S. airstrikes in Nigeria on Christmas Day in response to attacks against Christians—an action Netanyahu said underlined the urgency of addressing the issue.
Netanyahu said Israel’s planned support could include intelligence and other resources in Africa, emphasizing that protecting Christians abroad is a major part of Israel’s 2026 agenda.
