Canadian actress and comedian Claire Brosseau, 48, has announced plans to die by assisted suicide after decades of struggling with severe mental illness that began in her early teens. She has sought treatment across North America, but says nothing has delivered lasting relief. �

In 2021, Brosseau applied to Canada’s Medical Aid in Dying (MAiD) program — which allows doctors to assist patients with “grievous and irremediable” conditions to end their lives — believing that eligibility would soon expand to include severe mental health cases. However, delays in changing the law have pushed that possibility to 2027 at the earliest, leaving her unable to legally pursue assisted death under current criteria. �
