Calvert-Lewin Makes History as Leeds Fight Back to Hold Sunderland at Stadium of Light
Dominic Calvert-Lewin continued his remarkable scoring run as Leeds United battled back to claim a deserved 1-1 draw against Sunderland in a pulsating Premier League clash at the Stadium of Light. The England striker netted for a sixth consecutive league game, a feat not achieved by a Leeds player since John McCole during the 1959–60 season.
Leeds dominated early possession and went close through Noah Okafor, but it was the hosts who struck first in the 28th minute. Simon Adingra curled home a superb finish after a defence-splitting pass from Granit Xhaka, marking his first goal for Sunderland since joining from Brighton in the summer.
Daniel Farke cut a frustrated figure on the touchline, particularly with Joe Rodon unable to close down Adingra before later being substituted. Leeds pushed hard for an equaliser before half-time, with Trai Hume clearing Brenden Aaronson’s effort off the line.
Sunderland threatened to extend their lead after the break through Brian Brobbey, but missed chances proved costly. Just two minutes into the second half, Calvert-Lewin finished off a stunning team move involving all 11 Leeds players, converting Aaronson’s low cross.
Leeds pressed for a winner but Sunderland held firm to maintain their unbeaten home record. Sunderland sit seventh on 28 points, while Leeds move up to 16th with 20 points.
