Fenerbahçe Push for Blockbuster Return as €35m Sorloth Deal Nears Completion
Fenerbahçe are closing in on one of the most ambitious transfers in their recent history, with reports claiming the Istanbul giants are preparing to finalise a €35 million move for Atlético Madrid striker Alexander Sørloth. The Norwegian forward has reportedly agreed personal terms with the Yellow Canaries and is open to a sensational return to the Turkish Super Lig.
According to reports in Türkiye, Fenerbahçe have reached a preliminary agreement with the 30-year-old, who is now willing to accept an annual salary of around €11 million. While Sørloth initially preferred to remain in Europe’s top five leagues, Fenerbahçe’s project and financial package appear to have convinced him.
Negotiations with Atlético Madrid remain the final hurdle. The Spanish club, led by Diego Simeone, are reluctant to sanction a mid-season departure and have raised their asking price well above Sørloth’s estimated €20 million market value, citing interest from multiple European sides. Despite this, Fenerbahçe remain optimistic about reaching an agreement close to the €35 million mark.
Talks briefly slowed following the temporary detention of club head Sadettin Saran, but discussions have since resumed. Football operations chief Ertan Torunoğulları is expected to travel to Spain to conclude negotiations.
If completed, Sørloth would return to Türkiye after his prolific 2019–20 season with Trabzonspor, where he scored 24 league goals.
