Man City Move Fast to Seal Antoine Semenyo Deal Amid Liverpool Interest
Manchester City are accelerating plans to complete the signing of Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo, with Pep Guardiola’s side keen to avoid any late twists in the race for the Ghana international.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that City are now preparing direct talks with Bournemouth after successfully convincing Semenyo about the move. Speaking on his YouTube channel on Christmas Day, Romano explained that City want to act “as fast as possible” to prevent any surprise hijack, amid persistent interest from Liverpool.
City are ready to either trigger Semenyo’s £65 million release clause — valid until January 10 — or negotiate an alternative payment structure with Bournemouth. The relationship between the two clubs is understood to be strong, which could help smooth negotiations and push the deal toward a swift conclusion.
While Liverpool have been monitoring the situation closely, Romano clarified that the Reds have only made informal contacts. Liverpool first reached out to Semenyo’s camp in November and renewed discussions in December, but no official proposal has been submitted so far.
Crucially, sources close to the player indicate that Semenyo has identified Manchester City as his preferred destination. Although Romano cautioned that “nothing is impossible until contracts are signed,” all signs currently point toward City closing in on a “Here we go” moment in the coming days.
