“Don’t Ask Me About Market Value!” — Bayern’s Eberl Questions Kane Downgrade as Transfermarkt Fires Back
A fresh debate has erupted at FC Bayern Munich after sporting director Max Eberl openly dismissed player market valuations, questioning Transfermarkt’s decision to downgrade Harry Kane despite the striker’s prolific form.
Reacting to the latest market value updates, Eberl made his scepticism clear, distancing himself from external assessments. “Market value? Don’t ask me about that, I have my own opinion,” he said. The Bayern executive expressed particular confusion over Kane’s reduced valuation, adding pointedly: “I wonder why Harry Kane was downgraded. Can someone answer that for me? Don’t start with his age.”
The comments quickly gained traction, prompting Bild to seek a response from Transfermarkt. Market value coordinator Tobias Kröger offered a firm but measured explanation, confirming that age was the decisive factor behind the adjustment.
“Unfortunately, Harry Kane was downgraded due to his age,” Kröger explained. “Despite outstanding performances and an exceptional goal-scoring record, even a world-class striker like Kane is not immune to this trend.”
Kröger was keen to underline Kane’s standing in the global game, stressing that the England captain remains the most valuable player in his age category worldwide, with a current valuation of €65 million.
