Chelsea striker Nico Jackson appears to have no pathway back into the first team as long as Enzo Maresca remains head coach, according to journalist Matt Law of The Daily Telegraph.
Speaking on the London Blue Pod, Law revealed that the club has made it clear internally that Jackson will not feature under Maresca, even amid recent injury concerns.
“No, he won’t play for Maresca… It was made clear to them that Nico Jackson won’t play for Enzo Maresca,” Law said.
Law pointed to Chelsea’s recent reaction when new signing Liam Delap picked up an injury, prompting the Blues to make a late attempt to prevent a potential Bayern Munich move for another forward. Despite their urgency, Jackson was never considered as an option.
“So while Enzo Maresca is at the club, they simply can’t bring him back and can’t do anything with him,” he added.
The comments suggest a complete breakdown in sporting alignment between player and manager, with Jackson effectively frozen out of Maresca’s plans. Law went further, casting serious doubt over the striker’s long-term future at Stamford Bridge.
“There’s no way Nico Jackson has a career at Chelsea while Maresca is head coach as things stand.”
While Law acknowledged that football can be unpredictable, he admitted a reversal of fortunes seems unlikely.
“Whether that could change, I doubt it — but you can never say never.”
