Ermedin Demirovic erzielte am 3. Spieltag im Auswärtsspiel gegen den SC Freiburg das Führungstor für den VfB, der die Partie letztendlich mit 3:1 verlor. Sein Tor allein wäre jedoch die Punkte wert gewesen: Der 27-Jährige nahm eine Flanke von Jamie Leweling von der linken Seite mit dem Rücken zum Tor an, behauptete sich gegen mehrere Verteidiger und beförderte den Ball per Hacke ins Netz.
Der Treffer des bosnisch-herzegowinischen Nationalspielers wurde von der ARD-Sportschau als eines der nominierten Tore für die Wahl zum Tor des Monats September ausgewählt. Demirovic gewann die Abstimmung mit 43 Prozent der Stimmen.
