BREAKING: West Virginia Mountaineers Marching Band Crowned World’s Number One by ESPN and Guinness World Records

In a stunning recognition of musical mastery and cultural significance, the West Virginia University Mountaineer Marching Band, affectionately known as “The Pride of West Virginia,” has been officially declared the No. 1 Marching Band in the World by both ESPN and the Guinness World Records.
In a televised ESPN special aired last night, the network unveiled its inaugural Global Excellence in Collegiate Performance Arts Rankings, crowning WVU’s marching band at the top. Hours later, Guinness confirmed that the Mountaineer Band had also broken three global records: World’s Most Synchronized Collegiate Band, Loudest Field-Level Performance (peaking at 142.3 decibels in Milan Puskar Stadium), and Largest Live-Audience Marching Broadcast, viewed by 48.7 million people during their iconic halftime show at the 2025 Rose Bowl.

Led by legendary director Dr. Cheyenne Donovan, the band has taken its legacy of high-energy performances, intricate formations, and soul-stirring Appalachian sound to unprecedented heights. Their recent international tour, “Echoes of Appalachia,” featured show-stopping performances in Paris, Tokyo, Cape Town, and Rio de Janeiro—each ending in standing ovations and spontaneous crowd chants of “Let’s go, Mountaineers!”
