Netflix Announces Release Date for Highly Anticipated John David Crow Documentary: A Texas A&M Legend Remembered
College Station, TX – July 9, 2025 — In an emotional and historic move, Netflix has officially announced the premiere date for its upcoming sports documentary “The 12th Man: The John David Crow Legacy.” The film, which chronicles the remarkable life and enduring legacy of Texas A&M’s first-ever Heisman Trophy winner, John David Crow, is set to debut globally on September 15, 2025—marking exactly 68 years since Crow received the prestigious Heisman in 1957.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Ava DuVernay, the documentary promises to deliver a stirring and intimate portrayal of Crow’s journey from the small town of Marion, Louisiana, to the bright lights of college football immortality. Narrated by Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey, a devout Texas football fan, the film combines rare archival footage, emotional interviews, and never-before-seen letters from the Crow family collection.
John David Crow wasn’t just a football player—he was a symbol of grit, leadership, and Aggie pride. Under legendary coach Paul “Bear” Bryant, Crow became a household name and put Texas A&M on the national map, finishing his senior season with 1,563 all-purpose yards and 21 touchdowns despite battling multiple injuries.
