CJ BRONAUGH DECOMMITS FROM NEBRASKA: A CALM EXIT, A LOUD RIPPLE

LINCOLN, NE — On a quiet June evening, without theatrics or social media meltdowns, one of Nebraska’s most promising 2026 recruits quietly flipped the page on his recruiting journey. Four-star defensive back CJ Bronaugh officially announced his decommitment from the Huskers—sending a ripple through a program that had banked on his future presence.

No video, no lengthy caption—just a short statement shared with recruiting outlets confirming he was reopening his recruitment.

“I appreciate everything Nebraska’s staff has done for me. Nothing but love,” Bronaugh wrote. “But I need to take a step back and reevaluate my options. This is about making the best decision for me and my future.”

Bronaugh, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound defensive back out of Olathe, Kansas, had committed to Nebraska late last fall. A long-limbed corner with elite instincts and track speed, he was viewed internally as one of the crown jewels of the 2026 class. He had visited Lincoln multiple times, had built close ties with secondary coach Evan Cooper, and even served as a peer recruiter for the class—publicly hyping up other Nebraska targets.

His decommitment wasn’t entirely out of nowhere. Sources close to the program say Bronaugh had been increasingly courted by SEC and Big Ten East schools in recent months, especially after a dominant spring camp season. Georgia, Tennessee, and Michigan State are expected to make a hard push moving forward.

For Nebraska, the loss stings. Bronaugh represented not only defensive backfield talent, but a signal that the Huskers could win top-tier battles in the Midwest footprint. His departure leaves a noticeable gap, both symbolically and schematically.

Still, there’s no panic in Lincoln—yet. Nebraska remains active in the DB market, and insiders say they’ll now prioritize top-150 safety Tyson Redding and cornerback Elijah Marks, both of whom are expected to visit in July.

As for Bronaugh, his next move will be watched closely. And though his parting was quiet, the message was loud: college football recruiting never sleeps, and relationships—no matter how strong—can shift in an instant.

Nebraska Cornhuskers unveiled a statue of Tom Osborne on june 19, 2025, honoring his legacy as both a football legend and a national hero. The statue stands 5½ feet tall and depicts Tillman in his looks, poised to sprint onto the field. It is strategically placed in front of the newly renovated entrance, which leads fans onto the north end. This location ensures that Tillman’s presence continues to inspire future.❤‍❤‍❤‍❤‍ The unveiling closed a 15-month facelift that repainted end zones, widened concourses, and modernized the scoreboard, part of a $225 million package approved in 2023. Phase II added new glass-and-brick archways and dramatically expanded sightlines toward downtown Lincoln, creating what project architect Marcos Iverson calls “a cathedral porch for college football.” Osborne’s statue now presides over that porch, ringed by native bluestem grass and granite pavers engraved with each of his conference championships. At night LED up-lighting bathes the bronze in warm amber, framing the coach against a crimson-lit “NEBRASKA” façade—a photographer’s dream that already dominates social media.
