  • Draymond Green’s love for Michigan State runs deeper than accolades and banners. A native of Saginaw, Michigan, Green joined the Spartans in 2008 and played under legendary head coach Tom Izzo. During his four-year college career, he transformed from a slightly overlooked high school recruit into a national force, earning Big Ten Player of the Year honors and leading the Spartans to multiple Final Four appearances.

Vols Lead the Race for Elite Five-Star OL Darius Gray as Recruitment Heats Up

The Tennessee Volunteers are emerging as the frontrunner in the recruitment of one of the most coveted offensive linemen in the 2025 class—five-star standout Darius Gray. With college football’s recruiting battles intensifying this summer, Gray has made it clear that Tennessee is currently “at the top” of his list, signaling a potential game-changing win for Josh Heupel and his coaching staff.

Gray, who plays for Douglass High School in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, is widely regarded as one of the most dominant offensive linemen in the country. Standing 6-foot-6 and weighing over 280 pounds, Gray boasts elite strength, footwork, and technique that project him as a future anchor on any Power Five offensive line. According to 247Sports, he ranks among the top 25 overall prospects nationally and is considered the No. 2 offensive tackle in his class.

Tennessee’s Growing Momentum in Gray’s Recruitment

Gray’s recent comments about Tennessee being “at the top” weren’t made lightly. The Vols have been building a strong relationship with the Oklahoma native over the past several months. Offensive line coach Glen Elarbee and head coach Josh Heupel have prioritized Gray in their 2025 class, frequently visiting him and maintaining consistent communication with his family.

“I just feel like Tennessee really believes in me,” Gray said in a recent interview. “They’ve been honest, they’ve been loyal, and the energy I feel every time I’m around them is different. It’s real.”

That “real” feeling could give Tennessee a critical edge over other powerhouse programs pursuing Gray, including Georgia, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and Alabama.

A Program on the Rise

What’s attracting elite recruits like Gray to Knoxville? It starts with Tennessee’s resurgence under Coach Heupel. Since his arrival, the Vols have transformed into a dynamic offensive powerhouse in the SEC, consistently breaking records and knocking off top-tier opponents. That success is starting to show in recruiting as well, as Tennessee continues to stack highly ranked classes in back-to-back years.

Gray sees Tennessee as more than just a football school. He values the program’s investment in player development, strength and conditioning, and academic support. The Vols’ cutting-edge facilities and family atmosphere are resonating with recruits nationwide, and Gray appears to be no exception.

What Comes Next?

Darius Gray is expected to take official visits over the summer, with Tennessee scheduled to host him for a key visit in the coming weeks. Sources close to his recruitment suggest that the Vols will roll out the red carpet, aiming to solidify their lead and secure a commitment before the fall.

Should Tennessee land Gray, it would be a statement addition to the 2025 recruiting class and a major boost to their offensive line depth. He would join an already promising group of offensive talent poised to keep Tennessee in SEC title contention for years to come.

Final Thoughts

Darius Gray’s recruitment is far from over, but the Vols have positioned themselves perfectly heading into the critical summer stretch. With Gray publicly listing Tennessee as his current leader, the program now has the opportunity to close the deal and continue building a championship-caliber roster.

Vol Nation should be watching closely—this could be one of the biggest commitments of the 2025 cycle.
