LINCOLN, NE – In a move that has excited fans and alumni alike, the Nebraska Cornhuskers have officially appointed former American football star and beloved Nebraska icon, Turner Gill, as an assistant coach. The announcement marks a triumphant homecoming for one of the most influential figures in Cornhuskers football history.
Gill, a former quarterback for Nebraska from 1980 to 1983, was instrumental in leading the team during one of its most dominant eras under legendary coach Tom Osborne. Known for his leadership, intelligence, and composure on the field, Gill helped guide the Cornhuskers to three consecutive Big Eight titles and a near national championship in 1983. His connection to the program runs deep, and his return is seen as a unifying and inspiring development for both players and fans.
In his coaching career, Gill has accumulated extensive experience, including head coaching stints at the University at Buffalo, the University of Kansas, and Liberty University. At Buffalo, he orchestrated one of the most remarkable turnarounds in recent college football history, leading the Bulls to a Mid-American Conference championship in 2008. His time at Liberty was also marked by strong performances and leadership both on and off the field.
