In a significant move that signals the continued dominance of Oklahoma Sooners softball, pitcher Sophia Bordi has committed to the program, joining the team ahead of the 2025 season. Bordi, a highly touted right-handed pitcher from Haddon Heights, New Jersey, was initially set to debut in 2026 but reclassified to join the Sooners a year early, providing her with a unique opportunity to develop under the guidance of head coach Patty Gasso and her staff.
Bordi’s high school career has been nothing short of remarkable. She led Haddon Heights High School to consecutive state championships, earning tournament MVP honors both years. As a sophomore, she posted a 0.43 ERA with 258 strikeouts in 114.1 innings and threw four perfect games during the playoffs. Additionally, she batted .346 with 10 home runs, showcasing her dual-threat capabilities.
Her commitment to Oklahoma was announced on September 5, 2023, during an official visit to Norman. Bordi expressed her admiration for the program, stating, “When I went on a visit, it really all came together and felt like a future home for me.”
Upon joining the Sooners, Bordi’s immediate role is to redshirt for the 2025 season, allowing her to acclimate to the collegiate environment and enhance her skills. Coach Gasso emphasized the importance of this developmental period, noting that while Bordi is “quite behind” due to missing the fall season, the experience will position her to lead her class in 2026.
Bordi’s addition to the Sooners’ roster adds to an already impressive recruiting class, which includes six signees representing six different states. This class is considered one of the most athletic and powerful in the program’s history, reinforcing Oklahoma’s status as a powerhouse in collegiate softball.
