Tyler Summitt’s path to coaching was deeply influenced by his mother, Pat Summitt, who was the all-time winningest coach in NCAA basketball history at the time of her retirement. Raised in a household where basketball was more than a game, Tyler’s early exposure to the sport shaped his aspirations. He played as a walk-on for the Tennessee men’s basketball team and later served as a student manager for the Lady Vols, learning firsthand from his mother’s coaching prowess .
After Pat Summitt’s retirement due to early-onset Alzheimer’s disease in 2012, Tyler began his coaching career as an assistant at Marquette University. His first head coaching opportunity came at Louisiana Tech, where, at just 23 years old, he took the helm of the Lady Techsters.

In 2015, Tyler’s promising career faced a significant setback when he admitted to an inappropriate relationship with a player, leading to his resignation from Louisiana Tech. This period marked a low point in his life, but it also set the stage for a profound personal transformation.
