Tom Izzo Inks New Deal with Michigan State, Vows to Retire at MSU After Legendary Career
In a resounding affirmation of loyalty and legacy, Michigan State University has secured the continued leadership of Hall of Fame coach Tom Izzo with a new five-year rollover contract valued at approximately $6.2 million annually. This agreement not only underscores Izzo’s unwavering commitment to the Spartans but also cements his intention to conclude his illustrious coaching career at the institution he has called home for over four decades.
“Michigan State has been a home to me and my family for 40 years, and I’m ecstatic to sign this contract,” Izzo expressed upon the announcement. “We have worked hard to maintain championship standards, and I’m as energized to coach now as I was when I started as the head coach in 1995.”
Izzo’s tenure at Michigan State is marked by remarkable achievements: a national championship in 2000, 11 Big Ten regular-season titles, six Big Ten Tournament championships, and eight Final Four appearances. His leadership has propelled the Spartans to a Big Ten-record 27 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, the longest active streak in college basketball.
The 2024–25 season further solidified Izzo’s legendary status. Under his guidance, the Spartans achieved a 30–7 overall record and a 17–3 conference record, clinching the Big Ten regular-season championship. Notably, Izzo surpassed Bob Knight for the most Big Ten conference wins, reaching 354 victories.
