In remarks at the ribbon-cutting, Tom Izzo said the center “reflects the Spartans’ commitment to community health every bit as much as our commitment to championships.” Half of the Izzo gift is earmarked for imaging-based clinical research, meaning Spartan student-athletes may someday undergo concussion MRI protocols developed in the very building that bears their coach’s name.

5-Star QB Stuns College Football World by Turning Down $7.3 Million, Decommitting from Colorado, and Choosing Texas A&M Over Notre Dame and Florida State

In a move that has sent shockwaves through the college football world, 5-star quarterback phenom Jalen Mitchell (fictitious name for storytelling) has decommitted from Deion Sanders’ Colorado program, turned down a reported $7.3 million in NIL offers, and announced his commitment to Texas A&M — snubbing blue-blood programs Notre Dame and Florida State in the process.

Mitchell, ranked among the top three quarterbacks in the 2025 class, had been the crown jewel of Colorado’s recruiting class. His commitment to the Buffaloes was seen as a huge win for Coach Prime, who has been rebuilding the program through high-profile recruits and transfer portal moves. But in a stunning twist, Mitchell announced via a social media video that he was flipping his commitment to the Aggies — citing “culture, development, and long-term success” as key factors.

“I’ve got nothing but love for Coach Prime and everything he’s doing,” Mitchell said in his announcement. “But in the end, I had to make a decision for my future — on and off the field. Texas A&M felt like home. I’m not chasing a check. I’m chasing greatness.”

Sources close to Mitchell claim he was offered lucrative NIL deals, including one package totaling $7.3 million — believed to have come from a collective tied to another major program. Yet Mitchell, whose family reportedly emphasized education, coaching stability, and NFL preparation, chose to forgo the payday for what he called “the right fit.”

Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko, who’s quickly reshaped the Aggies since taking over, now has a centerpiece quarterback for the future — and a major recruiting win over two powerhouse programs in Notre Dame and FSU.

This shocking decision not only changes the trajectory for A&M but sends a message across college football: not every top recruit is for sale. In an NIL-dominated era, Mitchell’s move is both rare and symbolic — and it could mark a turning point in how elite recruits make their choices.
