In a historic achievement, the Florida State University (FSU) coed cheerleading team secured their first-ever Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) national championship in 2023. This victory marked a significant milestone for the Seminoles, as it was their first national title in cheerleading since 1997, when they won the all-girl division at the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) nationals.
The 2023 UCA College Nationals, held from January 13 to 15 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida, featured over 200 universities competing across various divisions. FSU’s coed team triumphed in the Division IA Small Coed category, outperforming several top-tier programs. The team was lauded for their exceptional stunting, tumbling, and crowd-leading abilities, which are critical components of the UCA judging criteria .
Cristina Gold, FSU’s Spirit Group coordinator, expressed immense pride in her athletes, stating, “They have put in so much work to get here and to win a national championship makes it all worth it” . The team’s dedication and hard work culminated in this historic achievement, setting a new standard for FSU’s cheerleading program.
The 2023 UCA College Nationals attracted nearly 500 performances from across the United States, making it one of the most prestigious events in collegiate cheerleading.
