Dylan Raiola, Nebraska’s freshman quarterback and the nation’s top recruit in the 2024 class, has ignited a resurgence in Cornhuskers football, drawing widespread attention for his striking resemblance to NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes. From his jersey number 15 to his hairstyle, facial hair, and even pregame rituals, Raiola mirrors Mahomes in both appearance and playstyle. Raiola’s path to Nebraska was marked by high expectations and significant decisions. Initially committing to Ohio State and later Georgia, he ultimately chose Nebraska in December 2023, following in the footsteps of his father, Dominic Raiola, a former All-America center for the Cornhuskers. He attributes his style to his own experiences and influences, stating, “A lot of people think I try to be just like him, but honestly, I grew up playing baseball and never liked football. As a kid, I always wore glasses. I’ve had this haircut since 6th or 7th grade maybe and I really didn’t know about Mahomes then.”
Mahomes, for his part, has embraced the comparisons, referring to Raiola as his “lil cuzzo” on social media and expressing admiration for the young quarterback’s potential. He remarked, “It’s cool, honestly. I was that guy, grew up watching players. I loved Alex Rodriguez, played short … and would try to make plays … that. It helped me … that I am.”
