Five-Star QB Shocks College Football World by Turning Down $6.7 Million, Decommits from Colorado, and Flips Commitment to Arizona State Over Notre Dame and Florida State

In a stunning move that’s sending shockwaves through the college football landscape, five-star quarterback phenom Jaxon Randle has officially decommitted from Coach Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes and announced his commitment to Arizona State University—turning down a reported $6.7 million in NIL offers from Notre Dame, Florida State, and others.

Randle, ranked as the No. 2 overall quarterback in the 2025 class by several major recruiting services, made headlines not just for his elite playmaking ability, but now for a bold decision that bucks the modern NIL-driven trend. With all eyes on where the generational talent would land after re-opening his recruitment, most insiders predicted a battle between Florida State and Notre Dame, both of whom reportedly offered multi-million-dollar NIL packages to lure the gunslinger to their programs.

Instead, Randle shocked everyone by flipping to Arizona State—a program with nowhere near the prestige, history, or financial pull of the others in the mix. So, why did he do it?

According to sources close to the decision, Randle was won over by ASU’s new head coach Trent Miles, who’s focused on building a player-first culture and promised Randle an opportunity to become the face of the program from day one. “It wasn’t about the money,” Randle said in a brief statement. “It was about where I felt most like myself—and where I believed I could leave a legacy.”

The move is a massive win for Arizona State, who has struggled to keep pace in the competitive Big 12 since conference realignment. Landing a player of Randle’s caliber could mark a turning point for the program—and a warning shot to the rest of the college football world that NIL money isn’t always the trump card.

As the ripple effects continue, the decision ignites a broader conversation about the direction of college football and whether culture, development, and leadership can still outweigh the almighty dollar.
