Nebraska Cornhuskers women’s basketball center Alexis Markowski has been named the 2025 National Player of the Year, capping off an illustrious collegiate career with a series of record-breaking performances and accolades.
Markowski, a 6-foot-3 center from Lincoln, Nebraska, has been a cornerstone of the Huskers’ lineup since her freshman year. In the 2024–25 season, she averaged 16.8 points and 8.1 rebounds per game, leading the team in both categories. Her standout performances included a 35-point, 15-rebound game against Oregon and a 30-point, 8-rebound effort at Northwestern.
A three-time All-Big Ten selection, Markowski became the first player in Nebraska women’s basketball history to earn four first- or second-team all-conference honors . She also became just the sixth Husker to record 1,000 career rebounds, achieving this milestone during a game against Creighton.
Beyond her scoring and rebounding prowess, Markowski was a finalist for the prestigious Lisa Leslie Center of the Year Award, solidifying her status as one of the nation’s top centers .
Off the court, Markowski has been recognized for her academic achievements and community involvement. She is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and a four-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll .
