Drones’ return is a major boost for a Virginia Tech program that experienced a resurgence in 2024 under head coach Brent Pry. The dual-threat quarterback threw for over 3,200 yards and 28 touchdowns last season while adding nearly 700 rushing yards and 10 scores on the ground, leading the Hokies to a 10-win season and an Orange Bowl appearance — their first New Year’s Six bowl in over a decade.
The 6-foot-2, 230-pound signal-caller was widely expected to declare for the NFL Draft, where scouts had projected him as a potential Day 2 pick. But the lure of elevating his program and etching his name into Hokies history proved more powerful than the pull of the pros.
