Penn State football has secured a pivotal commitment for its 2026 recruiting class, landing four-star quarterback Troy Huhn from Mission Hills High School in San Marcos, California. Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 205 pounds, Huhn is ranked as the No. 7 quarterback and No. 81 overall prospect nationally, according to the On3 Industry Rankings .
Huhn’s decision came after a series of unofficial visits, including trips to Ohio State and Penn State in June 2024. He ultimately chose the Nittany Lions over a host of top-tier programs, such as Michigan, Notre Dame, Oregon, Texas, and Auburn . A significant factor in his commitment was the strong rapport he developed with Penn State’s coaching staff, particularly head coach James Franklin and quarterbacks coach Danny O’Brien. Huhn expressed feeling “very welcome” and “supported” during his visits, noting that the environment “felt like home” .
The offensive scheme under new coordinator Andy Kotelnicki also appealed to Huhn. He appreciated the similarities between Penn State’s offense and his high school system, stating, “Their offense is very similar to mine at my high school. From run to pass and protections, I could see myself fitting in this system” .
In his sophomore season, Huhn threw for 1,623 yards and 16 touchdowns, showcasing a strong arm and solid decision-making skills . His commitment marks the second for Penn State’s 2026 class, joining four-star running back Messiah Mickens from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania .
Huhn’s addition is a significant boost for Penn State’s future quarterback depth chart, especially as the program prepares for the eventual departure of current starter Drew Allar. With Huhn’s commitment, the Nittany Lions continue to solidify their reputation as a destination for top quarterback talent.
