UA Men Climb Before Rain Returns
The University of Arkansas men’s track and field team made the most of clear skies and prime conditions over the weekend, posting standout performances just before rain clouds rolled back into the region.
Competing in the final home meet of the regular season, the Razorbacks showed strong form as they gear up for the SEC Championships. Sprinters, distance runners, and field athletes alike turned in season-best efforts, giving coaches and fans a glimpse of the team’s championship potential.
Junior sprinter Malik Thompson clocked a personal-best 10.09 seconds in the 100 meters, leading a 1-2 finish with teammate Chris Bailey close behind at 10.13. Meanwhile, freshman phenom Jalen Cross continued his breakthrough season with a 46.02 in the 400 meters, ranking him among the nation’s top ten.
In the field events, senior long jumper Marcus Daniels soared to a season-high 7.94 meters, earning top honors and setting the tone for a dominant showing across the jumps and throws.
Coach Chris Bucknam praised his squad’s focus and urgency. “With weather coming in, we knew we had a tight window,” he said. “The guys stepped up and made it count. That’s what championship teams do.”
Rain cut short the final day of events, but by then the Razorbacks had already left their mark. With the SEC meet on the horizon, this tune-up gave the team momentum — and valuable data to fine-tune preparations.
The Razorbacks will now turn their attention to postseason training, hoping the forecast holds when it matters most. But if this weekend was any indication, this team is ready to rise — rain or shine.
