Rick Barnes Honored with Pat Summitt Award; Baseball Team Named Top Male Amateurs by TNSHOF
The Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame (TNSHOF) has named University of Tennessee men’s basketball head coach Rick Barnes the recipient of the prestigious Pat Summitt Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing his decades of excellence and leadership in college basketball. Additionally, the Tennessee baseball team has been named the Male Amateur Team of the Year, celebrating their standout performances and contributions to collegiate athletics.
Rick Barnes, who has served as the Vols’ head coach since 2015, has become one of the most respected figures in the sport. Known for his commitment to player development, integrity, and competitiveness, Barnes has led Tennessee to consistent national relevance, including multiple NCAA Tournament appearances and a regular season SEC Championship. The Pat Summitt Award, named after the legendary Lady Vols coach, honors individuals who exemplify her values of character, leadership, and lifelong dedication to sport.
“This award is deeply meaningful, especially because it bears Pat’s name,” Barnes said. “She set the standard for what it means to lead with purpose and passion.”
Meanwhile, Tennessee baseball continues to turn heads on the diamond. The Vols earned the Male Amateur Team of the Year title after a stellar season that included a deep postseason run, strong leadership, and dominant performances on both sides of the ball. Their success has elevated the program to national prominence and energized the fan base across the state.
The TNSHOF’s annual recognition celebrates athletes, coaches, and teams who embody the spirit and excellence of Tennessee sports. This year’s honorees highlight the strength and depth of the Volunteer State’s athletic programs, with both Barnes and the baseball team exemplifying the highest standards of sportsmanship and achievement.
The awards will be officially presented at the TNSHOF induction ceremony later this summer.
