The Florida State softball team made an explosive return to JoAnne Graf Field, dominating Pittsburgh in a thrilling doubleheader to kick off ACC play. With a 22-5 record and a No. 10 national ranking heading into the series, the Seminoles showed the Panthers no mercy, sweeping the series 3-0 in front of an electric crowd.
Saturday’s action was nothing short of spectacular, with FSU taking a commanding 13-0 victory in the first game, followed by a 3-1 win in the second. Coach Lonni Alameda couldn’t contain her excitement, soaking in the atmosphere and energy that only the Plex can provide. “It’s great to be back home,” Alameda said. “The chants, the call-outs, the K-times—those are what make our facility special. It’s just amazing to hear it all again.”
Adding to the electric vibe was Alumni Weekend, as former players returned to celebrate the program’s incredible journey. “It’s emotional,” Alameda shared. “Seeing so many come back to support, share stories, and see how far we’ve come—it’s really special.”
FSU was scheduled to play Friday through Sunday, but with inclement weather looming, Saturday’s games turned into a doubleheader. On Friday night, senior Auburn transfer Annabelle Widra proved her versatility, pitching four solid innings and striking out four, while also playing infield on Saturday. While she gave up three runs, the Seminoles’ offense came alive, exploding for five runs in the second inning, led by back-to-back doubles from seniors Katie Dack and Jahni Kerr. FSU continued to pile on, securing an 8-3 victory.
Saturday’s first game of the doubleheader was a fireworks show as FSU torched the Panthers 13-0 in just five innings, thanks to an incredible performance from senior left-hander Julia Apsel, who tossed four hitless innings. Junior pitcher Makenna Reid wrapped things up, a promising sign for the pitching staff. “Health is key for Makenna, but she’s shown incredible growth,” Alameda said.
The Seminoles weren’t done yet, aiming for the sweep in the second game. The score was tied 1-1 heading into the sixth inning, but the FSU offense ignited, with back-to-back solo home runs from sophomore Kennedy Harp and senior Hallie Wacaser, giving FSU a 3-1 lead. Freshman Jazzy Francik shut down the Panthers in the seventh, securing the sweep.

With an impressive home series in the rearview mirror, FSU embarks on a challenging four-game road trip, beginning with No. 23 Alabama on Wednesday. The Seminoles will also face No. 17 Duke in a high-stakes weekend series. Florida State’s road ahead is tough, but after this dominant showing, they are more than ready to keep their momentum rolling and solidify their position as a powerhouse in the NCAA.
