Former Texas standout Kris Boyd is facing a storm of online criticism after a fiery sideline incident during the Houston Texans’ divisional-round loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. The drama unfolded just seconds into the game when Boyd, in a burst of excitement, appeared to shove his special teams coach Frank Ross after a fumble recovery by the Chiefs.
Boyd quickly clarified the situation post-game, explaining that his actions were a misunderstood reaction to what he thought was a forced turnover. He was simply caught up in the heat of the moment. “I was just too excited,” Boyd confessed to reporters, adding that he shouldn’t have taken his helmet off and shoved Ross. The action earned him a costly 15-yard penalty.
“I was turnt,” Boyd admitted. “I thought we had the ball, and I was running over to celebrate, but then someone pulled me back and said, ‘Nah, that’s not good.’”
Despite Boyd’s explanation, the internet erupted with backlash, leaving him in the eye of a social media storm. The 26-year-old, who is set to become a free agent after the season, aims to take responsibility for his actions and learn from the experience.
Boyd shared that after the incident, he spoke with Ross and apologized. “I told him I got a turnover, but he just said, ‘You can’t do things like that. Keep your composure, it’s just the first play. We have a whole game to go.’”
Unfortunately for the Texans, the emotional highs didn’t translate into a win, as they fell to the reigning Super Bowl champions 23-14.
