The Miami Hurricanes are once again making waves in the transfer portal with a major addition to their offensive line! On Friday night, Miami secured former Alabama and TCU center James Brockermeyer, choosing the Canes over top offers from Florida State and USC. This marks the first offensive lineman Miami has added this offseason, and it’s a big one.
Brockermeyer, standing 6’3″ and weighing 295 pounds, brings a wealth of experience to the table. The son of former NFL offensive lineman Blake Brockermeyer, James initially signed with Alabama as a four-star prospect. After three seasons with limited action at Alabama, he transferred to TCU, where he started all 12 games in 2024. At TCU, he earned an impressive 80.2 pass-blocking grade from Pro Football Focus, only allowing one sack and five quarterback hurries in 477 pass-blocking opportunities.
His pass-blocking was so good that he ranked 35th nationally out of 135 centers with over 500 snaps, and sixth-best in the Big 12. Brockermeyer also earned an honorable mention All-Big 12 nod, solidifying his status as a top-tier lineman.
Miami’s offensive line continues to build strength after successful transfers in recent years. In 2023, UCF transfer Matt Lee was a key contributor, now in the NFL with the Cincinnati Bengals, while Zach Carpenter followed in 2024, delivering a solid performance and now heading toward the NFL draft.
With Brockermeyer joining returning starters like Matthew McCoy (left guard), Anez Cooper (right guard), and Francis Mauigoa (right tackle), the Hurricanes’ offensive line is shaping up to be one of the most formidable in college football.
