The Miami Hurricanes just landed one of the biggest transfer commitments of the offseason! James Brockermeyer, a star center from TCU, has officially signed with Miami, marking a massive recruiting win for the Canes. This is the third consecutive year Miami has added a transfer center, following in the footsteps of Matt Lee (UCF) in 2023 and Zach Carpenter last season. Brockermeyer, like his predecessors, has one season of eligibility left, and he’s ready to make an immediate impact.
Brockermeyer comes from a football family—his father, Blake Brockermeyer, was a nine-year NFL offensive tackle. James was highly recruited, originally signing with Alabama as one of the top interior offensive linemen in the 2021 class. His twin brother, Tommy, was also a top recruit for Alabama, though he had to medically retire this year. Despite that setback, James is poised to shine at Miami as the #1 interior lineman in the transfer portal, according to On3.
Joining an already strong offensive line, Brockermeyer will team up with returning starters like Markel Bell (left tackle), Matthew McCoy (left guard), Anez Cooper (right guard), and Francis Mauigoa (right tackle). With Brockermeyer adding his experience, Miami’s offensive line is now a serious contender for one of the best in the country.
In his 12 starts at TCU, Brockermeyer played a total of 814 snaps, allowing just one sack and eight quarterback pressures. He earned an 80.2 pass-blocking grade and was named honorable mention All-Big XII in 2023. This kind of performance adds serious depth to Miami’s O-line, which allowed only 10 sacks and helped the team finish 57th nationally in sack-per-game stats in 2024.
With Brockermeyer anchoring the line and a talented group of running backs, including Mark Fletcher Jr. and Jordan Lyle, Miami is poised to dominate the ground game once again in 2025. This is a huge boost for the Canes as they gear up to make a serious run at national contention next season!
