Florida State’s football coaching staff has been through a complete transformation in recent months. With a new offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator, and coaches across multiple positions, the 2025 season promises a fresh start for the Seminoles. But just days into the new year, FSU is bringing back a familiar and highly skilled face to the team: graduate assistant Cooper Williams.
Williams, who spent the 2024 season at Missouri helping the Tigers’ offensive line to a 10-3 record and a Music City Bowl win over Iowa, is now headed back to Tallahassee. While it’s not clear yet exactly where he will fit within the coaching staff, FSU has an open analyst position after Gabe Fertitta’s move to Nicholls State. Williams will be an invaluable asset as the Seminoles look to rebuild their offensive line under new coach Herb Hand.
Before his time at Missouri, Williams was deeply embedded in Mike Norvell’s coaching system, working alongside him for seven consecutive years. His coaching journey began as a student assistant at Memphis in 2017, and he quickly moved up the ranks—becoming an analyst in 2018-2019 before joining Norvell in Tallahassee. Williams spent the last three seasons as a graduate assistant at FSU, where he worked closely with offensive line coach Alex Atkins and was a key part of the 2023 season that saw the Seminoles go 13-1 and win the ACC Championship.
A Memphis native, Williams played for the Tigers from 2014 to 2016, experiencing three straight bowl games, including a solid 8-5 finish in 2016, Norvell’s first year at Memphis. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business management and has a track record of success, with nine all-conference offensive line selections during his tenure at FSU.
As the Seminoles gear up for a new season, Williams’ return adds another layer of experience and continuity that could prove pivotal in reshaping FSU’s future. Fans should be excited about this dynamic and promising addition!
