Trey Smith, the powerhouse former Tennessee offensive lineman, has officially earned his first career Pro Bowl nod, marking a significant milestone in his already stellar NFL journey. As the only former Volunteer named to this year’s Pro Bowl, Smith stands out as one of three offensive guards selected, securing a backup position behind Indianapolis’ Quenton Nelson and Kansas City’s Joe Thuney.
A native of West Tennessee, Smith’s journey to NFL stardom has been nothing short of inspiring. After thriving in high school football at University School in Jackson, TN, he chose to remain in his home state to play for Tennessee. His early college career was marked by adversity, as blood clots shortened his sophomore season, but Smith’s determination saw him return stronger than ever. He went on to become a First Team All-SEC selection in both his junior and senior seasons, solidifying his place as one of the nation’s top offensive linemen.
Despite concerns over his health heading into the 2021 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs took a chance on Smith, selecting him in the sixth round. Since then, he’s proven to be an unstoppable force, earning two Super Bowl rings in his first three seasons. This year, Smith has been instrumental in protecting Chiefs’ quarterback Patrick Mahomes, playing over 1,100 snaps and not allowing a sack.
The 2025 Pro Bowl Games, where Smith will showcase his talents, are set for February 2 at 3:00 p.m. ET in Orlando, FL, as the Vols’ legacy continues to shine in the NFL.
