After a scary injury scare just weeks ago, Ta’Niya Latson returned to the court Thursday night and delivered a performance for the ages. The Florida State junior guard put on an absolute show, leading the Seminoles to a dominant 105-74 road victory over Virginia Tech, marking their first-ever win in Blacksburg.
Latson, the nation’s top scorer, dropped a career-high 40 points, tying Natasha Howard’s school record for points in a game. She added five assists, five steals, three rebounds, and one block in an electrifying display of basketball brilliance at Cassell Coliseum.
This isn’t the first time Latson has gone above and beyond—earlier in the season, she posted 39 points against SMU and 38 against Tennessee. She even registered her first-ever triple-double at the Paradise Jam in November. On Thursday night, she was nothing short of unstoppable, shooting 18-for-28 from the field and 2-for-3 from beyond the arc. By halftime, Latson already had 23 points, with FSU holding a commanding 52-38 lead.
But Latson wasn’t alone. O’Mariah Gordon added 18 points and set a career-high with seven steals, while Makayla Timpson chipped in with 16 points. The Seminoles shot a sizzling 58% from the field, totaling a season-high 21 steals in the process.
FSU’s 105-point performance is now the third-highest in ACC history for the program, and their offense is averaging a scorching 94.9 points per game—second in the nation. With five games over 100 points already, this Seminole squad is a serious force to be reckoned with.
Next, FSU returns home to face Syracuse on Sunday at the Donald L. Tucker Center before heading west for a tough stretch against Stanford and No. 20 California next week.
