Oklahoma football is facing another departure as assistant general manager Chuck Lillie is set to leave Norman and join the West Virginia Mountaineers as their new general manager. This move comes just days after West Virginia’s head coach Rich Rodriguez lured defensive coordinator Zac Alley away from the Sooners.
Lillie, who only joined Oklahoma in April, previously spent four years as a scouting analyst at Kansas State. His extensive background includes working in Clemson’s recruiting department from 2015-17 and serving as a defensive graduate assistant in 2018, where he worked alongside current OU head coach Brent Venables. Lillie’s ties to Venables and Alley go back even further, with both men previously working together at Clemson.
Before his time at Oklahoma, Lillie briefly worked for the New York Giants before returning to Clemson in an off-field role. At OU, Lillie played an integral part in the restructuring of the recruiting operations staff, assisting Venables with player evaluations and roster management alongside former player Curtis Lofton, who also served as general manager.
However, changes continue to sweep through the Sooners’ football program. Amid preparations for the NCAA’s revenue-sharing shift expected by the 2025-26 academic year, Oklahoma has been reshaping its support staff and football infrastructure. This includes the hiring of former AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson to guide the program through the transition, while restructuring the program to operate like an NFL front office.
With Lillie’s exit and Curtis Lofton’s recent resignation from his GM position, Oklahoma now finds itself in need of fresh leadership in both roles as they navigate this period of transformation.
