Oklahoma football is facing another major shakeup as assistant general manager Chuck Lillie is set to leave Norman for a high-profile role as general manager at West Virginia, according to a report from 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz. Lillie’s departure deals a significant blow to the Sooners’ staff, where he played a crucial role in roster management, player evaluations, the transfer portal, and NIL strategies.
Lillie will be joining former OU co-defensive coordinator Zac Alley in Morgantown, strengthening the Mountaineers’ leadership as Rodriguez continues to build his team. This move comes after Oklahoma’s big restructuring efforts in 2023, including the hiring of Lillie, general manager Curtis Lofton, and the addition of former Philadelphia Eagles executive Jake Rosenberg.
On top of these changes, OU also brought in former AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson in December to advise the program through its evolving football operations. With all these transitions, Lillie’s exit adds yet another layer of uncertainty to the Sooners’ front office as they recover from a disappointing 6-7 season, capped by a loss to Navy in the Armed Forces Bowl.
With a defensive coordinator search already underway, the Sooners will now have to rework their entire football management structure, leaving a major hole in their front-office operations.
