The Hurricanes lost another defensive back to the transfer portal on Thursday.
D’Yoni Hill, who started five games for Miami in 2024, is entering the portal after one season with UM, according to a report from 247Sports.
Hill, a Gainesville native who started his college career at Marshall, transferred to Miami before the 2024 season. He played in 11 games and played 375 snaps on defense.
Hill had 33 tackles, one tackle for loss and one pass deflection this season. Pro Football Focus gave him a 59.3 defensive grade with a 58.6 coverage grade.
Hill is the fifth defensive back to leave Miami via the portal this offseason, joining cornerbacks Robby Washington and Robert Stafford and safeties Jaden Harris and Isaiah Thomas. The Hurricanes’ secondary was arguably the team’s biggest weakness in 2024, and UM fired defensive coordinator Lance Guidry — who coached safeties — on Tuesday.
The Hurricanes have added defensive backs through the portal, as well. They have received commitments from cornerbacks Charles Brantley and Emmanuel Karnley and safety Zechariah Poyser.
