After missing out on the Peach Bowl, Texas’ legendary live mascot, Bevo, is making a grand return! The massive steer, weighing over 1,700 pounds with horns stretching more than 58 inches, will be front and center at the Longhorns’ College Football Playoff semifinal showdown with Ohio State on January 10th, the school confirmed Friday.
Bevo’s absence during Texas’ Peach Bowl win over Arizona State and the SEC Championship game was due to space constraints at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which couldn’t safely accommodate his enclosure. But now, Bevo is back in action, bringing his Texas-sized presence to the Cotton Bowl in Arlington, where he last appeared in December 2023 for the Big 12 Championship.
This isn’t Bevo’s first rodeo at the Cotton Bowl; he’s been a fixture at major games like the Red River Rivalry and the Sugar Bowl. While Bevo typically attends Texas home games, he’s also known to skip certain road games when sideline space is too tight to guarantee his safety and that of the players.
As the Longhorns aim for a shot at the national title, all eyes will be on Bevo, who’s ready to lead the charge and bring even more Texas pride to the battlefield!
