In a major coaching move, former Auburn football captain and standout linebacker, Deshaun Davis, has been named the linebackers coach at Jacksonville State. The announcement came Thursday as Davis takes on a pivotal role alongside first-year head coach Charles Kelly and new defensive coordinator, former Alabama safety Vinnie Sunseri.
Davis, a Pritchard native, brings a wealth of experience to the Gamecocks. Prior to this role, he spent two seasons coaching linebackers at the University of North Alabama, after starting his coaching career as a graduate assistant at UCF in 2022.
On the field, Davis was a force for Auburn, starting for three years and playing in 52 games. He recorded over 250 total tackles and 29 tackles for loss, earning first-team All-SEC honors and a spot in the prestigious Reece’s Senior Bowl. Drafted in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals, Davis also earned recognition as an all-state player at Vigor High School, further solidifying his legacy as one of Alabama’s top talents. Now, Davis will bring his leadership and expertise to Jacksonville State’s defense, helping shape the future of the Gamecocks’ linebacking corps.
