In a jaw-dropping development, former Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones is joining the Tennessee football staff as an offensive analyst, according to a report from VolQuest’s Brent Hubbs. This marks an explosive move for the Vols, as Jones brings a wealth of experience from both college and the NFL.
Jones, a standout at Oklahoma from 2009-2012, threw for an incredible 16,646 yards and 123 touchdowns, leading the Sooners to Big 12 titles in 2010 and 2012. His connection to Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel is undeniable — Heupel was Jones’ offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Oklahoma, setting the stage for their reunion in Knoxville.
But the connections don’t stop there. Jones also has a history with Tennessee offensive coordinator Joey Halzle, who was with Oklahoma’s staff during Jones’ time in Norman. These familiar faces are poised to make a powerful impact on Tennessee’s already explosive offense.
Jones steps into the role after McKenzie Milton’s departure, who will return to UCF as quarterbacks coach. While Jones has never coached before, his NFL experience — including stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Oakland Raiders — adds tremendous value to Tennessee’s quarterback room. He will work with rising stars like Nico Iamaleava, Jake Merklinger, and the highly anticipated 2026 QB commit Faizon Brandon.
